Find Your Fit

Most leather jackets fall into a handful of classic shapes. Knowing the differences makes it much easier to choose one you'll wear for years.

Motorcycle

The asymmetric zip, wide lapels that snap down, and often a belted waist. It is the most structured and expressive of the four, cut to sit at the hip. Choose it if you want a jacket with presence.

Racer

A clean front with a straight zip and a small band collar. Racers are usually trimmer and shorter, with little ornament, so they layer easily and look sharp over a T-shirt or knit.

Bomber

Ribbed cuffs and waistband gather the jacket at the wrist and hip, giving a relaxed body with a neat finish. It is the most casual of the group and easy to wear every day.

Trucker

Borrowed from the classic denim jacket: a button front, chest pockets and a boxy, belt-line length. It works well as an overshirt-style layer.

Getting the size right

Leather relaxes with wear but doesn't stretch much in length, so sleeve and body length matter most. The best method is to measure a jacket you already like, laid flat, and compare it with the garment measurements on each product page. If you plan to layer a sweater underneath, leave a little extra room in the chest.
